The Europa Top
As I was browsing through Expression Fiber Arts’ beautiful yarn collection, I came across a colourway called Drops of Jupiter. My first thought was the song by Train and the music of my youth. But I also remembered a school project I did years ago on the planet itself and how enchanted I became with the gas giant.
I have always been fascinated by her size, her colours, and the way she looks solid but is actually made of gases. The centuries-old storms and many moons inspired me for this design.
I chose a stitch pattern that flows like waves, mimicking Jupiter’s chaotic, swirling cloud bands. I named the design after her fourth-largest moon, Europa, which may hold the key elements needed to support life. I hope you enjoy this design, capturing Jupiter’s magnificence and beauty in yarn.
