Ewyn (Welsh, meaning ‘surf’) is inspired by shimmering ocean waves rushing to the beach and is offered in two shapes, a rectangular stole and a crescent wrap (CHART ONLY).

The stole is knitted sideways in one piece with the edgings worked along with the center. The size of the stole can be easily customized by working additional pattern repeats lengthwise and/or widthwise. The Ewyn Stole chart shows just a single repeat beaded at each edge, while the sample shows three repeats beaded at each edge; however, you can bead as many or as few repeats as you like. You can also skip the beads altogether and simply knit the stitches without the beads (6/0 4.0 mm seed beads, 100 for beaded edges as charted; 300 for triple beaded edges as shown in the sample).

The crescent’s lace border is knitted first; stitches are then picked up along the border’s top edge and simple stockinette short rows follow to create the crescent shape. You can skip the nupps in the lace border and replace them with beads, or simply knit the stitches without forming the nupps.

Finished Size:
Stole: 14.5” wide and 68” long
Crescent: 17.5” center depth and 70” wingspan

Stole: Louet North America Euroflax Lace (100% Wet Spun Long Linen; 580 yd / 100 g); color Navy; 1 cone
Crescent: Louet North America Gems Fingering (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 185 yd / 50 g); color Steel Grey; 3 skeins

Needles:
Stole (lace weight yarn): US 5 3.75 mm and US 7 4.50 mm circular needle 32” or longer
Crescent (fingering yarn): US 7 4.50 mm circular needle 32” or longer

Gauge:
Stole (lace weight yarn): 25 sts and 32 rows = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch, unblocked, using US 5 3.75 mm needles.
Crescent (fingering yarn): 19 sts and 28 rows = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch, unblocked, using US 7 4.50 mm needles.
