Expressions
Expressions hats came out of my love for the Incognito Cowl by Mercedes Tarasovich-Clark. I knit two for my boys and thought “it would be amazing if they had matching hats with eyebrows”. The idea sat around for years until I finally decided to reach out to Mercedes about my idea and ask her for her blessing (which she graciously provided). And with that I present Expressions, funny hats for the whole family :)
The pattern provides 6 sizes, all achieved by knitting at different gauges. The brim is double-thick to provide extra warmth, and if you have an extremely sensitive child (spouse, friend, whatever) like I do, you can use a super soft yarn on the inside, and a warmer, more sturdy yarn on the outside. Play with stripes, use gradient yarns, self-striping, self-patterning, the sky’s the limit. These are a great way to use up left over yarn, and to express yourself (like mood hats)!
Each size is achieved with the following yarn weights, in the following amounts:
- newborn - fingering; 100 yds color A, 25 yds color B
- baby - sport; 100 yds color A, 25 yds color B
- toddler - DK; 160 color A, 50 yds color B
- child - worsted; 175 color A, 50 color B
- adult s/m - aran; 160 color A, 60 color B
- adult l - chunky; 150 color A, 75 color B
yardages are estimates
The pattern includes charts for the following eyebrow styles:
- Angry brows
- Jersey Shore brows
- Uni-brows
- Groucho Marx brows
- Waxed brows
The full pattern has been released. If you pre-ordered, you will find the update in your Ravelry library.
Happy knitting!
