Fair Winds Beanie
This pattern is no longer available as a free download. We enhanced the design, added more thorough instructions and beautiful photographs by Jared Flood, and combined it with our Following Seas Scarf. Published as a new Churchmouse Classic in our Autumn 2016 collection, you can find the pattern here on Ravelry, and here on our website.
Our Fair Winds Beanie lets you experiment with just one skein of our Featured Fave yarn (20% off) and play with some twisty cables! A riff on last winter’s Following Seas Scarf, eight braided cables converge in perfect balance at the crest of this handsome hat.
This version is knit in Rowan Tweed DK, a classic yarn that feels a little crisp in the ball but softens and blooms beautifully with a good wet-blocking or steaming. Spun in one of the few remaining traditional Yorkshire mills, the colors are dyed in the fleece and blended in the spinning for complex heathered shading. Small clips of bright wool (’neps’) are added during the spinning to give it the rustic tweediness that we love.
