Falkland Skirt
This book is part of a collection, History on Two Needles by Annie Modesitt
Both the son & father of beheaded monarchs, James 6th of Scotland and 1st of England occupied a singular place in history.
The only child of Queen Mary of Scots (beheaded at the order of Elizabeth I), James was raised by his Calvinist uncles to rule Scotland & England.
In a painting of James at age 8 he is shown in a rich but fittingly Protestant modest outfit of white padded doublet with ridged sleeves and a small ruff, and the full green velvet breeches which were the inspiration for my simple, regal skirt.
