A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS PATTERN
Much like the curious hedgehog in this, my ’Scraps To Stitches MAL’ design, I love to wander in the woods in the Autumn, to see what natural wonders can be found. The fascination of colours, shapes and textures from falling leaves, pine cones and ‘propeller’ seeds, which offers the irresistible temptation to bring home souvenirs to make cosy crafts!
I wanted to bring that ‘foraging factor’ to this design, emphasising the idea of using scraps and found materials to create something new and exciting; which is why I incorporated the use of real pinecones, beads rescued from broken jewellery and fallen twigs into the piece.
It is my hope that the experience of searching, collecting, and foraging in your yarn stash to find supplies for this project, are as enjoyable and meaningful as making and crocheting the wall hanging itself, and that it becomes not just a fun and cosy craft for fall, but your own ‘souvenir’ of a special place and time.
This pattern is a perfect stash-buster using very small amounts of DK yarn (approximately 50g of the main colour, 100-150g in total) worked in the overlay mosaic crochet technique, with small leaf shaped appliques worked using basic crochet stitches. Found objects included in the pattern could be substituted for other natural objects such as twigs, pebbles, beads, pom poms, cut dowels, or other items ‘foraged’ from a charity shop or around the home. It’s your creative journey so you make it your own!
I hope you will enjoy the journey this project takes you on, that it’s an opportunity for something mindful in a hectic world, which may hopefully enable you to explore familiar places and see them in a new way, whilst also making something lovely and cosy, using this cute Hedgehog chart!
And if you haven’t tried Overlay Mosaic Crochet yet, now is the perfect time to give it a go!
Stay curious folks!
Much love and happy hooking!
