These socks are knit from the top down with a heel flap. They contain clear instructions on knitting a sock and are suitable for beginners who are comfortable knitting lace. The shifting lace pattern creates lines of right-leaning and left-leaning decreases that appear to converge. The geometric texture of the fabric is suitable for people of all genders and gender identities. This pattern has been tested and professionally tech-edited. Instructions for the lace stitch are both written and charted.
Sizes: Small 7.5” (19 cm) and Large 9” (23 cm)
The lace/texture pattern is stretchy and should fit a wide range of feet.
Materials stitch markers (10-12 if you want to mark the lace repeats), tapestry needle, extra dpn or stitch holder while working heel flap
Yarn LolaBean Yarn Co. Bean Sprout (80% superwash merino wool, 20% nylon; 400 yd 366 m/ 3.5 oz 100 g): Stoic.
Needles US Size 1.5 2.5mm: set of 5 double-pointed needles (dpns), or 9” 23 cm circular and 2 dpns, or 40” 100 cm circular for magic loop, as you prefer. The pattern is written for one sock at a time using dpns or 9” 23 cm circular method. Adjust needle size to obtain gauge.

Inspiration
Between March 26th and April 4th, three Louisiana churches were burned to the ground. The arsonist was charged with federal hate crimes. On Easter Sunday, April 21st, three churches and hotels in Sri Lanka were bombed. These were both acts of terrorism. During this time I saw an Instagram photo of a stunning skein of hand-dyed yarn by Adella Colvin, the indie-dyer running LolaBean Yarn Co. In the caption she wrote: “From church fires in Louisiana to working towards inclusivity and equality, there are so many things going on in the world that impact us all in different ways.” As I read on I discovered she was giving all proceeds to the ACLU, and as news trickled out about the Sri Lanka attacks she later extended the fund raiser to include donations there as well. It is easy to want to shut ourselves off from the fear and hate in our world. Or we can choose to move toward love, kindness, inclusion, equity, and truth.
