Faraway Friends Bandana Scarf
Meet the Faraway Friends Bandana Scarf, the perfect little accessory to show off that one special skein that’s been languishing in your stash or that you picked up on your travels. It uses just under one skein of soft, sport-weight merino from Knitten Word, with a stockinette version to showcase a beautiful variegated colorway and a textured version to add interest to a solid or tonal skein. Ideal for cooler weather that isn’t quite cold enough for your full woolly wardrobe, this scarf is a great way to add a piece of knitwear to an otherwise non-knitted outfit — making it perfect for fiber festivals and events when you want to show off your skills without overheating! I designed this scarf while visiting my bestie, who lives across the Atlantic Ocean from me, and it’s a beautiful way to stay connected with friends from afar. Planning to meet up with long-distance fiber friends at a yarn festival? You can all grab a skein of yarn and knit matching scarves to wear when you reunite! The Faraway Friends Bandana Scarf is a celebration not only of beautiful, hand-dyed wool, but of the friends we share our craft with, whether they live next door or across the world.

Pattern Notes
This scarf is knit in the round from corner to corner. For the first half, increases on one side create the triangle shape, while less frequent decreases on the other side create a slight indent at the center of the scarf, making it easier to wrap around your neck and drape properly. The increases and decreases switch sides for the second half to mirror the slope. The stockinette version is perfect for highly variegated colorways, to show off the colors best, and the purl stripe version adds a bit of texture to a solid or tonal yarn.
