Featherly capelet
About the pattern
Fly towards the sky with this elegant capelet or shawl made up of lacy, airy feathers. Use a light cotton yarn for a summery capelet for a renaissance faire, a lacy yarn for a wedding accessory or a thicker, warmer yarn for a fun, witchy accessory in autumn and spring.
The capelet is made up of identical feathers that can be repeated more times for extra coverage or fewer times for a winged look.
The short rows used for shaping the feathers are easy to work and their ends are hidden by the overall laciness of the fabric.
Smart shaping makes the ends of the feathers stick out from the main body of the capelet, creating a scalloped edge.
Skill level
Intermediate, due to working with short rows, decreases, short lace repeats.
Materials
- Yarn: 300 g or 700-750 meters of size 3 yarn at about 250 meters per 100 grams; thinner yarn can be used with the same needle size for a lacier effect;
- Needles - 4 mm straight or cabled needles;
- Stitch markers: 1 marker, or 11 if you want to mark the end of short rows.
- Tapestry needle, scissors, tape measure, stitch markers; Optional: tools for blocking (iron with steam or other steamer), blocking mats and pins.
In sample: 3 balls of Creative Cotton Fleece by Rico Design, 250 m per 100 g, 750% cotton, 13% acrylic, 12% wool, color 002. The yarn has a chainette structure, which makes it more elastic than a spun cotton.
