The Fellowes Cloche was designed for the Woolen Rabbit yarn club and is now available for general purchase.

When Kim mentioned a 1920s theme for the yarn club, I knew right away that I’d like to design a cloche. The short hairstyles curling out from underneath long brims have always appealed to me, and no hat is better for demure looks through lowered lashes. Named Fellowes Cloche after the creator of the incredible Downton Abbey, I happily imagine Mary wearing my hat on a crisp fall morning.

I knew Kim’s yarn would be the star of the show, so I kept the design simple, using the very dense linen stitch to give the brim structure. I’ve used short rows to achieve the deep brim on this hat, and added a band of linen stitch, sewn on with the WS out, for contrast. It is worked from the bottom up, in the round. I hope you enjoy it!
