Felt like snow
This headband is knitted flat, and then felted by hand before being stitched together to close the loop. The felted fabric of this wide headband will keep your ears warm even on a windy day.
Be sure to use yarn that will felt easily – a 100% non-superwash wool is ideal.
The headband is deliberately made too long and felted along its length to shorten it, as it will shrink as it felts. As written, the band will fit an average woman’s head with a circumference of about 22”/56cm. Pattern tension before felting is 4.5 sts and 6 rows to 1 inch/2.5cm using 4.5mm/US7 knitting needles.
The exact yardage required will depend on the size of your head. You will need approximately 60 yards of Main Colour yarn and 20 yards of Contrast Colour yarn.
The pattern is fully written. There is also a chart for the snowflake motif although it is not necessary to use charts to complete this project.
The colourwork sections use the stranded colourwork technique.
The pattern includes instructions for felting the headband by hand.
