THE FERN COLLECTOR is a cowl designed with plenty of beautiful
texture mimicking the shape of fern pinnules. An easy to follow
pattern using front post and back post as well as popcorn stitches. Wider at the shoulder area, decreases towards the top to keep you warm this winter.

The inspiration for this crochet design has been the fern fever of the
Victorians - or as Charles Kingsley, author of the water-babies, called
it: the fern madness (Pteridomania).
Victorian holidaymakers were particularly fond of visiting North
Devon since it was -and still is - a fern heaven. Rolling hills and
shady woods near the area of Lynton and Lynmouth are full of
different fern species - a delight for the amateur naturalist who is
spending hours and hours on foot to add to the ever growing fern
collection.
