Field Mark is a pair of fingerless mitts knit in Starling. A field mark is a distinctive feature used to identify a bird, while binoculars help to see those details. A band of colorwork binoculars wraps the hand, paying tribute to the tool that brings birds, landscapes, and fleeting moments into focus.

MATERIALS
Yarn: 3 colors of Quince and Co. Starling Fingering Weight (4 ply) yarn. Sample is shown in Bunny (Main), Ecru, and Raven (Contrast Colors). Yardage for all sizes will require 1 skein of each color. Exact yarn usage will depend on size.
Needles: Size 1 (2.25mm) for cuff and rib. Size 1.5 (2.5mm) for hand and thumb. Size 2 (2.75mm) needles for colorwork. Or sizes that give correct gauge and preferred fabric for your hand.
Additional Materials: Stitch markers, tapestry needle

TECHNIQUES
The Mitts are knit with a ribbed cuff, thumb gusset, and one colorwork chart. The open hand allows for careful handling of binoculars on adventures.

SIZING
The mitten pattern is written for 2 sizes: S (L) to fit hands with a 7” (8”) or 18cm (20cm) hand circumference. The pattern is designed to have negative ease in the cuff and neutral ease in the hand. If your hand circumference is in between these two sizes, you can use a larger or smaller needle size to create a more exact fit.
