The Fields of Gold sweater was inspired by these thoughts, as well as the wool used. As I knit with Nutiden yarn, I am constantly reminded of how close to nature and the earth this wool is. Every blade of grass I discover in the fiber reminds me that this was alive. Part of a living being that rolled in the hay and played. I imagine the sheep that provided me this wool grazed in fields of gold - and in this pattern it’s like coming back home.
This design is best suited for an intermediate knitter who would like to learn new techniques. It is worked top down - flat at first, then seamlessly in the round after the neckline shaping is complete. There are two sleeve length instructions given in this pattern: short sleeve or 3/4 length. There are also instructions to lengthen the garment by adding length to the wheat grass stems or repeating another wheat grass motif vertically. Stitches are picked up around the neckline edge to form a 1x1 twisted rib “v-neck”.
Note Charts in this pattern are not also written out due to the complexity and number of charts.

Sizes

• Choose your size to match your desired garment bust circumference. This pattern is suggested to be worn with 9”/22.8cm of positive ease. Meaning the measurements of the garment are 9” larger than your body measurements.
• This pattern includes suggestion notes on how to customize the fit of the garment to your liking, like adding length and two sleeve options.
• Sample shown in size 2 - model has 34” bust.

Yarn

• Unspun fingering weight held double throughout. Or Aran weight spun yarn held single.
• I recommend using Nutiden yarn for this design, but some similar yarns include: Lopi Plötulopi, Wild Wool Canadian Wool Discs, Wool Dreamers Manchelopis, or another pencil roving.
• Honer Och Eir - Nutiden: 100% Wool, 100g. Sample uses colorway Hofta. Yarn usage approximations are for the 3/4 length sleeve version - short sleeve will need less yarn. 320 (350, 400, 450, 475){515, 550, 600, 650}grams.
• Please note, every colorway of Nutiden is created differently and therfore contains different fiber types, so it is very difficult to predict exactly how much yarn you will need. I always suggest purchasing more than you think you will need all at once as Honer Och Eir only produces one batch of any given colorway.

Needles

• 4.0mm / US 6 for ribbing sections and
• 5.0mm / US 8 for body and sleeves
• 22” Circular needles for body and neckline, and circular needles for magic loop or DPNs for arms.
• The sizes above are only a suggestion. Choose needle size to obtain the correct gauge.

Gauge

• 17 stitches and 26 rounds in 4”/10cm in Stockinette Stitch, blocked and dried.

• Note: It is important for you to achieve the correct stitch and row gauge for the best fit of the finished garment. I used stainless steel circular needles when designing.
