From Fishermen’s Sweaters: The fisher gansey designed for a particular individual, as I mentioned in my introduction, is epitomised by Fife. To work this pattern in any other child’s size would require altering the pattern panels, and so it comes in only one size.

The vertical patterns of Fife - worked entirely in knit and purl stitches - are typically Scottish. The tough double cast-on, gussets, half stocking-stitch sleeves and double cast-offs ensure that this gansey is designed to cope with all the rough and tumble of childhood.

• Underarm, excluding gussets: 36”/91 cm
• Length: 19”/48 cm
• Sleeve length: 14.25”/36 cm
