The Fifth Avenue shawl features a shallow triangle of patterned mesh that drapes nicely over the shoulders or around the hips for a touch of sass. Because blocking is not required, it’s great for acrylic yarns as well as natural fiber.

The pattern includes instructions for two borders: a small ruffled border and a more tailored flat border. The shawl’s size is easily adjusted following the directions provided.

If done in lace or fingering weight yarns, this shawl makes a great four seasons wrap. A slightly heavier yarn would make a colder weather wrap.

Experienced Beginner - - - US terminology

The yardage needed will vary depending on the size of shawl made, yarn weight, hook size, and border selected.

Yarn Suggestions: 500-1200 yds of most any lace or fingering, or sport weight yarns.

Hook: 4.0 mm (G) for heavy lace weight, 5.0 mm (H) for fingering weight, and 6.0 (J) for sport weight. The size of hook will depend on the weight of your yarn and your personal tension when crocheting.

Sample Shawl Sizes:
1200 yds of Woolike fingering weight with a 5 mm hook (H), all 60 rows completed, ruffle border, unblocked measured 76” wingspan and 33” deep. I did not block this one.

800 yds of Willow Stream (lace weight), 4 mm (G) hook, all 60 rows completed, flat border, unblocked measured 62” wingspan, 25-1/2” deep.
