Fig the Bonsai
Bonsai is the Japanese art of growing small trees in pots. Many hours are spent cultivating the Bonsai, it requires patience and good care. Fig isn’t your average Bonsai – Fig makes a great indoor companion and requires minimal maintenance.
Fig is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in US (American) terms. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.
Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished items. My Fig the Bonsai is approximately 10cm tall (4 inches).
You will receive one PDF file which requires software like Adobe Reader to open (this is free to download).
You will need:
- 2.75mm hook/C-2 (US)
- 8ply yarns/DK or Light Worsted > 50g yarn in BLUE, LIGHT BLUE, GREEN, WHITE and CARAMEL
- BLACK 4ply yarn or embroidery thread
- Scissors
- 7mm plastic safety eyes (optional)
Notes:
- Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best, I prefer cotton.
- When changing colour, yarn over the new colour and pull through on the stitch prior.
- Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
- For this pattern, the following yarns were used: o LIGHT BLUE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in col. 436 Duck Egg Blue o BLUE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in col. 437 Dolphin Blue o CARAMEL = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in col. 409 Light Camel o GREEN = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in col. 425 Pistachio Green o WHITE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in col. 403 Light Champagne
- I have used plastic safety eyes for this pattern but you may embroider. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
