The hats samples shown here have been knitted with 3 different DK yarns
Debbie Bliss Rialto DK, Sirdar Cashmere Merino Silk and Sirdar Snuggly DK 100% acrylic

As this hat is knitted in rib it requires a smaller needle than the standard size recommended for DK (US Light worsted) yarns. This smaller needle size will give you a neat rib with elasticity and memory (it will bounce back). The hats sizes are calculated using this smaller needle

Due to the elasticity of this rib structure, the hat is narrow when lying flat and stretches for a snug fit. The pixie point detail looks it’s best when this hat fits between the flat-to-stretched measurements. Just go up a size if you are near to the largest stretched measurement.
