Worked in a reversible stitch and sized for the whole family, this hat will keep everyone cozy through the long winter months. A tubular cast on gives the brim a tidy start and a simple stitch gives you a chance to play with color: create a colorblocked version with brim and body worked in separate colors or hold 2 thinner yarns together for a marled effect.

SIZES: XS (S, M, L, XL); finished brim circumference 14.75 (16.5, 18.5, 20.25, 22)”/37.5 (42, 47, 51.5, 56) cm folded, unstretched. 2-4”/5-10 cm negative ease is recommended

YARN: A DK or light worsted weight wool or wool blend, approximately 200 (225, 250, 275, 300) yd/ 180 (205, 230, 250, 270) m (if holding fingering weight yarn double you will need double these amounts)
Sample A, colorblock version: The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers Craggy Tweed, 85% SW Merino, 15% NEPs, 231 yd/4 oz (211 m/100 g): 1 skein each in Monarch and Dumplin
Sample B, marled version: Cosy Posy Yarn Co Soft & Cosy, 80% superwash Merino, 20% nylon, 400 yd/4 oz (370 m/100 g): 1 skein in Darkest, held double
Sample A is shown in size M and measures 9.75”/25 cm tall, with the brim folded; Sample B is size S and measures 7.75”/19.5 cm tall, with the brim folded.

GAUGE: 26 sts and 40 rnds = 4”/10 cm in shaker rib worked in the round

NEEDLES: US 5/3.75 mm 16”/40 cm circular needle, plus double pointed needles, or size to obtain gauge
US 4/3.5 mm straight or circular needles, or 1 size below gauge needle, for tubular cast on only
