Firefly Trails is a loop cowl that features assigned pooling.

Worsted weight yarn knits up quickly for a fun introduction to this technique. Choose a yarn that is meant to pool; you’ll want 8 to 10 inch (20-25 cm) runs of your pooling color. Because the loop is worn with the pooling motif hanging sideways, they look like fireflies rising, rather than flowers!

Knitting begins and ends with a reverse stockinette rolled edge. The size of your loop is easily adjusted; I like a 32-33” (81-84 cm) loop cowl.

The pattern includes a video tutorial on making the sunburst stitches, as well as notes on adjusting the stitches for your color pooling yarn. There is also information on getting the most out of your yardage.

Thank you to model Sharon Hsu.
