Fireside Shawl
This generously sized, simple-textured shawl features triangles upon triangles upon triangles. Garter-stitch borders combined with the knit-heavy stitch pattern mean that purling is limited, and the 8-row pattern repeat is easily memorized. Worked in a springy worsted-weight yarn, this shawl is a quick and cozy knit, perfect for curling up on a sofa or by a fire.
Yarn
Worsted weight (#4 Medium).
Shown here: Spud and Chloë Sweater
(55% wool, 45% organic cotton; 160 yd
146 m/3 1/2 oz 100 g): #7515 cider, 5 skeins.
Needles
Size U.S. 8 (5 mm): 36” (90 cm) or longer circular
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the
correct gauge.
Notions
Stitch markers (m); tapestry needle.
Shawl is worked from the point up. Two stitches
are increased every wrong-side row, alongside a
central spine for the border set-up, and alongside
the inner side of the border thereafter.
To reduce the amount of purling required, all
increases and patterning are worked on wrong-
side rows. All right-side rows are knit even.
