Living in Alaska, you look forward to spring…warmer weather, no more snow, all day sun light, and the fireweed that blooms throughout the state. Fireweed is a tall showy wildflower that thrives just about everywhere in Alaska…from sea level to high peaks. It is a bright colorful reminder that warmer days are upon us.
Fireweed flowers bloom from the bottom up and in Alaskan folklore, when the final petals open at the top of these stalks, it signifies six weeks left of summer. The stitches in this cowl reminded me of this prolific plant that blooms in the summer months throughout this wonderous state.
