Not sure what to do with your self-striping yarn? This is a sideways shawl that was inspired by a skein of self-striping yarn with the colors reminiscent to my Dad’s favorite flannel shirt. It reminded me of the times that my dad would take me fishing with him and the wind on the water would blow and he’d wrap his flannel shirt around me. The shawl is a slender crescent shawl with a border with a stitch pattern that resembles the sea foam as it floats along the water.

(Published in the June 2016 issue of I Like Knitting as “Fishing for Compliments.)

SHAPE: Crescent

NOTIONS: 2 stitch markers. Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

PATTERN STYLE: The pattern contains written as well as chart instructions. There is a key and full abbreviation list included as well.

DIFFICULTY: Advanced Beginner

YARN: This pattern was specifically designed for self-striping yarn, however solid or tonal, gradient or color block would be beautiful as well.

SIZE: 60”x13” (Blocked and unpinned)
This is the size of the sample, please keep in mind the size of your shawl may vary depending on your yarn skein’s yardage.

NOTE: You will need to weigh your yarn on a scale before you start, and as you knit this shawl. If you are not using a scale, you MUST swatch to get gauge and follow the repeats of the sample.

The beauty of the construction of this shawl is you can make as small or as large as you would like, repeating the sections according to your OWN skein’s yardage, enabling you to use very close to the entire skein of yarn.
