I grew up in a fishing community and was recently reminded of those days while reading Seawomen of Iceland by Margaret Willson. Misreading the Icelandic word fiskin that she references, I realized fishkin was the perfect word for my memory of those earlier connections.

This design celebrates those relationships between neighbors and nature. The Shetland-inspired patterning begins at the bottom with scalloping razor shell lace, and the 20-stitch fish and ripple lace repeats every 24 rows. The scarf ends with offset razor shell lace to create symmetrically shaped scalloped ends.

The lace is worked in reversible garter stitch, and an option is included for stockinette lace. It is easy to customize both the length and the width, and while designed for lace yarns, it also can be knit in a variety of fingering and Shetland/sport/DK weights.
