The Flame Tree Flower (Delonix Regia) centre is crocheted first with a magic ring, then the large flame petals are crocheted on the edge of the centre. The small petals are crocheted onto the centre.
This pattern is available for free on my blog. For an ad-free version, you can buy the PDF.
Each large petal is 5 cm/ 2 inch in length and the small ones about 2 cm / 1 inch.
The blanket pictured is made up of 80 squares.
This pattern includes instructions for the flower, flower border, blanket border and making up instructions.
Essential Information
Sizing
Each square measures 12 cm by 12 cm (5 inch by 5 inch )
Finished Blanket Size (10 horizontal by 8 vertical Squares with 2 cm / 1 inch border)
132 cm (52 inch) by 107 cm (42 inch)
Yarn
The yarn yardage outlined before is for one blanket made up of 80 squares (27 Red, 26 Orange and 27 Yellow), joined with White and border of 2 cm / 1 in using all the yarn.
4 Seasons Marvel DK (8 Ply)
550g / 1557 m / 1703 yards in White (Shade 1001)
225g / 637 m / 697 yards in Orange (Shade 1065)
207g / 586 m / 640 yards in Red (Shade 1003)
256g / 725 m / 793 yards in Yellow (Sun Gold/shade 1009)
Alternative Blanket Sizes
To make a smaller or bigger blanket simply multiply the weights for one square by how many squares you want in your blanket.
I’ve provided the weight for one Flower in each colour for your calculation.
For one Red Flower (including square border)
5.5g / 16 m / 17 yards in White
1g / 3 m / 3 yards in Orange
7g / 20 m / 22 yards in Red
For one Orange Flower
5.5g / 16 m /17 yards in White
1g / 3 m / 3 yards in Yellow
7g / 20 m / 22 yards in Orange
For one Yellow Flower
5.5g / 16 m / 17 yards in White
8g / 23 m / 25 yards in Yellow
If you make a smaller or larger blanket, you will need to calculate how much yarn you need for joining the squares and for the border.
For the 80 Square Blanket border and joining squares I used:
115g / 325 m / 355 yards in White
14g / 40 m / 44 yards in Yellow
16g / 45 m / 49 yards in Orange
18g / 51 m / 56 yards in Red
Yarn Substitutes
The yarn that I used is available in Australia, substitute any other 8 ply. If you substitute with 10 ply keep in mind that your squares will come out bigger and you must use a bigger hook, you’ll also need more yarn.
