Fledgling
The Fledgling mittens are one of 11 engaging patterns from Penguin: a Knit Collection by Anna Maltz - a printed book packed with patterns, photographs, illustrations and stories, all inspired by penguins. Available from annamaltz.com and your LYS. Available as a single pattern here on Ravelry.
Baby emperor penguins for your hands! Cute, as well as practical, these colourwork mittens are knitted in the round with afterthought thumbs. They start with a ribbed cuff and progress to simple 1x1 checkerboard colourwork. The tops of the mittens (the little emperor penguin chick faces) are charted separately for each size. The densely knitted wool fabric has the added bonus of floats (from the colourwork) at the back, which make them extra warm.
