Making the most of a wild colourway of self-striping yarn, the Fletcher Mitts are worked in garter stitch chevrons for a fun and funky look. The yarn is worked from two skeins to provide the contrasting rows.

The mittens start at the cuff with two triangles, quickly joined and then worked in the round, leaving a slit for the afterthought thumb. The tops are cast off with a three needle bind off, maintaining the chevrons through the last rows.

The original pair of mittens was designed and knit for my friend Moira for the holiday season in 2009. At her request, they are named after the occupation of “fletcher”, or arrow-maker.

Approximately 220 yards of aran-weight yarn. Shown in Noro Cashmere Island, color 11
