Sideways triangles (page 16) are a joy to wear. They wrap around your neck and shoulders with lots of coverage but not a lot of bulk. Stripes are addictive to knit, pushing you forward to knit the next one. Add some bias shaping in the mix to create fault lines and the illusion of folds, and you have Flexture.

Yarn Substitution:
Drape is the primary quality needed for the body of this shawl. The high level of silk content takes care of that in the Gobsmacked gradient, but fibers like linen, bamboo, and rayon will work as well.
If you can’t find a long gradient, consider putting together your own using individual skeins of yarn in colors that blend well into each other, along with accent colors for the stripes (see “Breaking
the Rules,” page 110). The stripes make excellent break points for changing colors.
