Flower Child Socks
Use a #1 weight sock yarn that contains some stretchy element such as lycra or Polyamide. After washing and drying the fabric, gauge should be 8 stitches/10 rows/” in stockinette. 1.75 ounce skeins are most common in this sort of yarn. Have 2 of the main color and 2 of the contrast color on hand. You will almost certainly have enough left to make some baby or children’s socks. These are sized from ladies 4-12.
Sock tops are designed to be 14” from the top of the ribbing to the bottom of the ribbing and the top is designed to fall just below the knee joint. The ribbed area has twice the number of stitches as the foot area and easily stretches to fit anybody’s calf. As given, it is 14” long, using a row gauge of 10/” for the ribbing. In wear, it will stretch in width and shorten a bit in length making the effective ribbing length more like 13”. This fits many legs just great but long legged ladies may prefer more rows for longer ribbed tops.
