Flower Market Shawl
The Flower Market Shawl is a triangular shawl with a garter stitch border. It is knit from the center back to the bottom edge, with increases at each edge and along the center stitch.
Finished size: 51 inches x 30 inches (size is dependent upon gauge and how severely you block it)
Notions: yarn needle, stitch markers (4), blocking pins/wires
The pattern includes both chart instructions and full written instructions.
The suggested yarn is Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light (2 skeins, color: Tart) or you may substitute approx 600 yards of any fingering weight yarn.
Gauge is not crucial since this is not a fitted garment but changes in gauge can affect both the size of the shawl and the amount of yarn required to complete it.
A Note About Sizing: Due to the nature of the charts, making the shawl either larger or smaller will require some fudging and math but it can be done (by knitting Chart B more or fewer times). For those of you who are adventurous, here are some numbers to keep in mind:
Row 7 of Chart C requires the stitch count between each set of markers to be divisible by 3. There are 6 rows of plain knits or purls leading up to Row 7 so these rows are perfect places to hide the increases/decreases you’ll need to get to a stitch count divisible by 3.
The first row of Chart D is an 18 st repeat + 5. This time there are 5 rows of plain knits or purls leading up to the start of Chart D and these rows are perfect places to hide the increases/decreases you’ll need to get to a stitch count that works with the 18 st repeat + 5.
