Flurry
The air is getting crisper, the leaves are starting to change color, the hordes are flocking to Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts for Pumpkin Spice Lattes, and knitters around the world are gearing up for the Christmas push. For many of us, our most dearly beloved friends and family have already been gifted the basics: scarves, cowls, mittens, hats, maybe some mug cozies or boot toppers. I wanted to find something special to knit this year; to amaze my non-knitting friends with the magic of reversibility, and to impress my knitting club by taking a basic hat to the next level. Light enough to wear as the first flurries begin to fall, but warm enough to keep ears cozy and warm while slogging through knee-high snow drifts to dig out the car, this snowflake hat has met those needs.
This pattern includes step by step directions on creating this hat using double-knitting technique, but is not meant to be a tutorial on how to double-knit. I have included some useful links to my favorites on YouTube, and there are dozens more out there.
This Snowflake hat pattern calls for two contrasting colors in DK weight yarn; 1 skein of each color in Malabrigo Rastita will generously make two hats.
The size comfortably fits the average woman’s head circumference of 18-22”, and is shown in the sample on a 20” head.
