I fell in love with dragons, moved by a sf writer named
Anne McCaffrey, whose Dragonriders of Pern books
transported me from Queens, NY to another world,
society, and relationship to environment. I read them
decades before they began to appear in movies,
not counting their Godzilla incarnation. The Luck Dragon of Neverending Story, Dragonheart, Eragon, Miyazaki’s
Haku (Spirited Away), Drogon, of Game of Thrones
and, through a friend’s son, Toothless of
How to Tame Your Dragon, rekindled my affection.

Gauge is not critical for this Dragon. You may shrink or grow it depending on our yarn and hook combination.
I recommend working it as tightly as possible -- using a hook a size or two smaller than that recommended for
the yarn weight.

I used an E/3.5mm and cotton thread size 3 and with fingering weight wool, the wing body width was 3.25”.

While the stitches aren’t exotic, there is a lot of close work in the tiniest of picots. Stitch control and consistency are key to a happy outcome.

There’s a bit of sewing and a metal tapestry needle is recommended to accomplish the last task.

They feel nice as they are right in between appliqué and amigurumi. I stitched the neck and felted one and achieved the dimensional, ami-effect.

I’ve added tail wings to some and more spine spikes to others. They’re fun and fairly fast to make. I think they would make a great mobile, or with shorter tails, they would make a great brooch/pin for dragon lovers.
