Rhian Drinkwater’s sock design was created to make the most of a specific yarn – Flying Saucer, by Schoppel Wolle. “This amazing yarn creates bubbles and swirls of colour as you work,” says Rhian. “As everyone’s gauge and sizing will be slightly different, you’re likely to see different effects as you work, but at some point you should see spirals morphing into bubbles. If you don’t like the effects you’re getting, try varying your tension, by knitting a larger size with smaller needles.”
The two discs of yarn in a pack should be identical, so if you are careful about starting at the exact same point, you should produce identical socks. If you start at different positions, you’ll end up with ‘fraternal’ socks, as shown here.
