Inspired by folk art designs from around the world, this tapestry project features bold bright primary colors, plus green of course, it is a tree after all.

#1 Super Fine yarn was used in the pictured sample with a 2.0 mm crochet hook.

A 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch dowel, 36 inches long, is needed or your chosen method of hanging.

5 colors are needed:
• Red - approximately 25 yds used in sample
• Royal Blue - approximately 25 yds
• Dark Green - approximately 40 yds
• Sunny Yellow - approximately 30 yds
• Natural White - approximately 350 yds, 2 skeins

Yarn substitutes include any #1 Fine yarn, size 10 crochet thread held double, size 3 crochet thread such as Knit Picks Curio 3, Nazli Gelin Garden 3.

Heavier weight yarn could also be used to make a larger piece.

Be sure to select a hook size to achieve a sufficiently “non-holey” fabric

Pattern is provided using a grid-based graph. In this grid, each square is equal to one single crochet stitch, and colors are changed according to the squares on the graph.

Stitches should be worked carefully and precisely, but not pulled so tight as to make them difficult to work into. I find using the “yarn under” sc, and not yanking the top of the stitch tight is perfect for this project.

Border correction: Continuing with White, at end of Row 117, ch 2, rotate to work down the left side of piece in the row ends, skip the row last made, sc in next 4, sc2tog, (sc in next 6, sc2tog) repeat down side, sc in last 5 – 102 sc.
Ch 2, rotate to work along bottom, sc in same st last used, sc between each st of Row 1 around the beginning chain – 87 sc.
Ch 2, rotate to work up the right side of piece in the row ends, sc in next 4, sc2tog, (sc in next 6, sc2tog) repeat up side, sc in last 5 (skipping Row 117) – 102 sc.
