Pattern notes
The mittens start with a strip of cable edging that forms the cuff. Stitches are picked up and knitted along the row-end edges of this strip. The rest of the cuff is worked in a cable and rib basket weave pattern. Increases are worked to create a thumb gusset, and then the hand stitches are left on a holder while the thumb is worked in garter stitch with stocking stitch ribs. The hand is then completed in broken rib and cable basket weave pattern, before the mitten is seamed together. The second mitten is worked in the same way, with mirrored patterning.
