Introduction
When you see the comfortable old gansey sweater and just imagine how cozy it must be. With the inspiration being from an old Traditional Knitting book full of the history and basic patterns for cables. With a few liberties taken to update to modern construction techniques, this piece will soon become a favorite. As with most of the designs from House of Wiggs you can see some hints of the Mon Calamari Sweater from the Mandalorian added in to give this classic pattern a little geekiness. The Forest by the Sea as a traditional gansey is knit bottom up with the cable pattern starting mid chest, an added gusset to provide ease of movement for the arms, and a simple sleeve pick up that means no seaming. This gansey with a modern twist is written to give 5-8” of positive ease in the chest with a filled sleeve. This piece can be knit to fit your own aesthetic for ease, by adjusting the sts per inch you will be able to calculate the amount of ease. Two variations are provided in the pattern, the first being cable for the full body (this will require extra yarn) and the second being a sleeve that is knit starting at the cuff and sewn to the shoulder for a more exact Mon Calamari Sweater.
