I began this sweater with the border pattern. I was intrigued by the unconventional knot stitches made by wrapping the yarn around the base of the stitches. To showcase the border, I chose a simple eyelet pattern for the body of the sweater and reprised the border in an abridged format for the neckline. After completing the sweater, I realized that intertwined knot stitches reminded me of forsythia hedges that are frequently used as borders or fences in gardens, and the eyelet looked like the individual four-petaled forsythia flowers. I love the dusky purple color of the yarn, which shows off the stitch patterns, but I think this sweater would look wonderful in a “forsythia yellow” of early spring as well.
