Foscadh
Errata: There is an error in the written instructions - the slipped stitches should be worked wyib. The chart is correct.
Note: The pattern comes with instructions to make the cowl in two yarn weights, Aran and Chunky.
There are two sets of instructions, one for each of the yarn weights. Be sure to check the relevant materials that correspond with the yarn weight you intend to use. See details below.
When autumn draws in and summer begins to take a back seat, we tend to think of warm fires, wholesome foods and cosy knits but, for many around the world, this is far from reality. Homelessness is becoming more and more ‘the norm’ in many cities around the world and it is for this reason that Revived Yarn, The Constant Knitter and myself decided to collaborate to help those affected by homelessness to keep warm – it’s the very least we can do.
Foscadh is the Irish word for shelter. I particularly chose this name because shelter is one of the basic human needs that, unfortunately, many people around the world do not have.
Foscadh is a reversible cowl with interesting texture on both sides. The finished fabric presents as interlocking bands of stocking and reverse stocking stitch that form a texture resembling the surface of dry stone walls seen throughout the country side. The reverse of the cowl presents as a kind of quatrefoil pattern, often seen in Middle Eastern architecture and decorative tiling.
