Frances Perkins shawl
This is a pattern for a triangle shawl worked in the round and using the stranded colourwork technique. It is intended for knitters who are comfortable with HUGE complex charts. The charts of high quality enough to enlarge them, if you are printing.
Find some lovely yarn at 5 Sisters in jumper weight or fine-fingering.
Join us in the bunnymuff group or as a free bunnymuff Patreon member to knit along and chat! I usually work off a pad or the computer, but others may have suggestions for how they use the charts and knit.
In addition, the Welcome page pdf has a link to my tutoriol and how I catch floats for this project (as well as a practice swatch). I am keeping the pattern in mkal clue format, for easier use, at this time.
You will need long circular needles for this project, if you want to work it, and the edge, in the round. I recommend 40 - 60 in / 102 - 152 cm cables.
Changing the weight of the yarn, gauge, and/or knitting style may change the approximate yarn amounts.
yarn:
Jumper Weight by 5 Sisters Farm; Light Fingering; 100% Shetland 250yds (228m) / 50g / 2oz
approximate yarn amounts:
colour A (Apple, Linden, or Plum) - 1464yds / 1342m (305g); 6 skeins
colour B (Bramble or Hazel) - 875yds / 805m (183g); 4 skeins
needles:
2.5mm (us no 1.5) circular 20in / 51cm
2.75mm OR 3.0mm
gauge:
30 - 33 sts x 30 - 33 rows = 4in/10cm on larger needles and over stranded stockinette
Some knitters work stranded and single-colour stockinette at different gauges. Change needles, as needed, to keep gauge the same throughout.
approximate finished size:
39in / 99cm (depth) x 91in / 231cm (top width) and gauge 33 sts x 33 rows
additional tools:
needle to weave in ends, stitch marker
