Tucked away in Sonoma County, CA, is a tiny little town called Freestone. They don’t have any stop lights, maybe not even a stop sign, but when I think of summer I think about this cute town. There’s a bakery run by some women, baking gorgeous loaves of bread in a wood fire oven and the most incredible sticky buns you’ve ever had that are the size of your head. We always hit this place up on our way back from the coast for a little treat, and end up eating an entire loaf while it’s warm before we even get home. (You should always buy two.)
This shawl is my ode to this small place in the world. A place full of friendly folks and the clap of a screen door when you walk in. It feels like home. It feels like summer.

Summer generally doesn’t call for a shawl, but here in Northern California, you’re going to want a little something as soon as the sun goes down. Nothing heavy, nothing fussy, but something that’s just enough to keep the coastal breeze at bay. Knit in The Plucky Knitter’s newest yarn “Groovy, Baby”, it’s light as a feather with the most beautiful cashmere halo and a slightly rustic look. Nothing is better than cashmere + rustic if you ask my opinion.

Gauge: 5.5 stitches per inch in garter, unblocked.
