January, a celebration of the beginning of things; new year, new resolutions, new habits. At the same time, there’s an unwillingness to let go of the festive feeling that permeates the last weeks of December. But we’re full, stuffed to the brim, on rich plum puddings and thick gravy over roasted meats. January also brings a longing for something a little lighter on our plate.

Enter French Silk Pie, a frothy delight of smooth bubbly mousse topped with light clouds of sweet whipped cream, under a shower of chocolate shavings. The French Silk Pi shawl draws inspiration from the layers of texture evident in the pie to create a light and elegant circular wrap. This full circle shawl worked in shimmering silk yarn is the perfect compliment to the last festive parties that we still long to attend.

Materials Needed:
- @1200-1260 yards lace weight yarn sample worked in tussah silk
- 3.25mm (US 3) circular needle or size needed for gauge
Optional:
- dpn needles and scrap dk or sport weight yarn for cast on
- unique stitch marker to mark beginning of round
- 35 additional stitch markers

Gauge: 28 stitches x 36 rows over 4”/10cm in stocking stitch before blocking.
Note that I do not consider gauge to be essential for a lace shawl. Instead, I recommend swatching for a fabric you like. If your gauge is markedly different from that given in the pattern, you will need to adjust your yardage accordingly.
