Friends Will Be Friends
The stitch pattern contains many double lines that run in paralel, for me they remind that a real friendship binds people together, doesn’t even matter how rarely we meet. The cowl is also a very fast knit if you want a gift for a friend.
The pattern is the third of 5+1 patterns from the Friendship e-book and also belongs to 3 Quick Cowls e-book.
Knitting starts with just a few stitches and the piece is worked sideways as a simple asymmetrical triangular shawl. After binding off, the shawl is seamed to become a cowl. I think I invented this way of making a shawl into a cowl, which a rather strange, because it is so easy to do. If you want a shawl instead, just work a larger piece.
The sample cowl is worked from Aran weight yarn, but it would look good worked also from heavy fingering, DK, worsted or bulky weights.
For information about sizes, measurements and yarn requirements please check the second page of the pattern located among the photos on the left.
It is very easy to adjust the size of the cowl, either by working a different number of pattern repeats or by adjusting the circumference of neck opening when seaming. Customisation notes also suggest how to work a cowl or shawl with all over pattern, without the garter body.
I asked test knitters what they would like to tell about the pattern and the finished cowl to other knitters and here are some of their answers:
betslyn I found the cowl to be an exciting thing to knit with various stitch patterns throughout. I also found it easy to convert to memory so that it was a very portable knit. I really enjoyed knitting this cowl and found it hard to put down.
Vaida A perfect quick knit for your friend - or for yourself! Once you get the hang of the pattern it becomes almost mindless.
MandyzMoon This a beautiful and intuitive project with stunning results. It can accommodate a wide range of yarn weights if you adjust your needle size and can be knit to any size. Using a lighter weight yarn, I knit a longer piece that, when seamed, made a taller cowl that really suits the lighter yarn and allows the garter neck to scrunch warmly.
crumbgrubbers This is a wonderful design and a very well-written pattern. It is a very satisfying project and I highly recommend it!
AmyF Lovely, easily memorized pattern with spectacular results.
4mama2008 It’s a well written pattern, easy to follow, everything is explained sufficiently. A fast knit and at the end you get a beautiful cowl.
MargiBorck A quick knit and perfect for adventurous beginners through seasoned knitters.
kaisukka It was very easy to work and result is wonderful.
