As the days grow short, we return inwards to the hearth. Beautiful meandering cables cross, then depart from another, then cross again, symbolizing the nature of friendships.
Available in 4 standard throw pillow sizes, this adorable cover works up in no time using an affordable, chunky weight yarn so you can knit a few to gift for all occasions, and a few to keep yourself.
A simple pattern knit flat and then seamed at the end with button closure, this cushion cover is the perfect gift knitting project.

Sizing
Sizes A (B, C, D) to fit standard square throw pillow sizes of 14 (16, 20, 23)” / 35.5 (40.5, 51, 58.5) cm.
Fits with slight negative ease. Actual finished dimensions are: 13 (14, 19, 21)” / 33 (35.5, 48.5, 54.5) cm on each square edge.
Shown in size B in gray. Size A in pink.
Gauge
15 sts x 20 rows = 4 x 4” / 10 x 10 cm in Stockinette stitch, knit flat with Needle A
45 sts x 30 rows = 9 x 6” / 23.5 x 15 cm in cable chart, knit flat with Needle A
Materials
Yarn & Yardage
2 (2, 4, 4) hanks of KnitPicks’ Simply Wool (affiliate link) Aran (100 grams / 193 yards / 176 meters for each hank) in the colorway Winkle.
2 (2, 3, 4) plates / 140 (180, 300, 370) grams of Honer Och Eir’s Nutiden (100 gram plates) unspun yarn in the colorway Dukvulla, held double throughout.
Or any chunky weight yarn that meets gauge, in the following amounts: 325 (400, 675, 825) yards / 300 (360, 610, 750) meters
Needles
Circular or straight needles at least 24” / 60 cm lengths in the following sizes
A: US 10.5 / 6.5 mm for main fabric
B: US 9 / 5.5 mm for ribbing
Notions
2 stitch markers, 4 (4, 5, 6) buttons 1.5” / 4 cm size, tapestry needle
Plus, a standard sized throw pillow for size being knit.
The samples were made from Skagit Woolen Works’ throw pillows in the Square Throw 14” and 16” sizes.
