Fringe Socks
The Adamson House has two iconic pieces of tilework. The first is the peacock fountain; the second is the tiled fringed Persian rug.
This ‘rug’ is reason alone to visit the Adamson House. It dominates the hallway in which it was installed. It’s a triumph of trompe l’oeil – the detail is amazing, including the fringe which waves and overlaps like real fringe.
I love the fringe, which is why it’s what I wanted to reinterpret in a knitted piece. My intent was to evoke the edge of a Persian carpet including the fringe.
The picture of the rug shown is a reproduction from the wonderful company California Pottery and Tile Works.
Notions: Yarn needle, stitchmarkers (one unique for beginning of round), cable needle if you use one, yarn needle
Skills needed: Stranding knitting, working in the round, picking up stitches, Kitchener stitch, braids, cabling
Thank you to Alexandra Virgiel for tech editing.
NOTE: If you want a white braid as shown -- simply add on a new strand of white and use that at the CC strand per the stitch definition. If you like to alternate the colors in your braid, keep to the MC/CC designations.
