Hi Folks!
Thanks for checking out the Frontier shawl! Available in two sizes, this two-color shawl makes use of knitting and purling through the back loops to create compact ribs that run the length of the garment. Intarsia knitting allows you to use two colors in one row, and a distinct border is used to separate not only the colors but also the two textures. Finally, that border then transitions into an i-cord bind-off to add one final detail to the shawl. Although it may be slow to knit up, the final product is amazingly stretchy, squishy, and oh-so-satisfying. Whether you are knitting it for yourself, a friend, or a family member, the future recipient is bound to love it!
The two sizes available are:
--Size A: Scarf with length 70 in (178 cm) along top edge and depth 18 in (46 cm) at deepest point
--Size B: Shawl with length 90 in (229 cm) along top edge and depth 23 in (58 cm) at deepest point; the sample shown was knit in this size
Additional details:
Needles:
--3.25 mm (US 3) needles (40” needles recommended for Size B)
Yarn Requirements:
--Size A requires ~800 yards of fingering-weight yarn (400 in each color)
--Size B requires ~1200 yards (600 in each color)
Gauge:
--Gauge actually isn’t too important for this project as the ribbing is extremely stretchy. Use whatever gauge you’re comfortable with!
Other Materials:
--stitch markers
--tapestry needle to weave in ends
Also, if you are careful to carry your yarn along the wrong-side the same way each time (behind the intarsia border), the back is just as visually appealing as the front, and the whole shawl becomes reversible!
Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Reach out! I’ll do my best to respond back as quickly as I can. If I don’t get back to you right away, please forgive me! I probably have my nose buried in a book for grad school.
