FuchsiaNouveau-petite
Important note: the yarns used for this shawl have a nice drape to them and keep a block extremely well. If you decide to substitute a more springy yarn such as a 2-ply merino, you may need to go up in needle size to compensate for bounce-back after blocking, and produce a similarly sized shawl to the samples.
This pattern contains full written instructions, as well as charts. Chart users need to refer to written instructions in some areas for the transition from the garter tab to the body of the shawl, and for the finishing.
This is a smaller version of the full FuchsiaNouveau pattern which comprises two layers of different colors. It first appeared as a special edition pattern at Stitches West in 2014. Those who bought the kit at Stitches will have a code for a download of this digital file version.
The Art Nouveau style has always been one of my very very favorites. I can stare for hours, and have been known to do so often (especially at the Paris Metro)! When I set out to design this shawl, I had a lovely two color garden fuchsia as my inspiration. Then my mind took over, and without consciously realizing it, I channeled the Art Nouveau and Deco aesthetic in the books I’ve been perusing of late.
The leaf motifs create the shape of a fuchsia flower in a semi-circle, draping across your shoulders delicately.
