When I first developed the Phrancko Seamless Set-in Sleeve technique, my dream was to create a sweater architecture that could be worked entirely in the round but has the architecture of set-in sleeves for a more perfect fit. I never quite reached that goal as my patterns always required working flat on the sides of the neck while everything else was knitted in the round. But with this pattern, my dream has been fulfilled, hence the name of the sweater. My test knitter and I worked up about 20 failed yoke attempts over four months before I finally found the algorithm that worked. The result is this “inset yoke” design that apparently was popular in the 1920s, which like most set-in sleeve patterns was knitted in pieces and seamed together. I am so happy to present this architecture that is knitted entirely seamlessly in the round while also incorporating the bell-shaped sleeve caps necessary for the fit of set-in sleeves.
