Fungus Shawl Jacket Light
Description
The Fungus Shawl Jacket Light is a jacket shaped like a shawl. It is knitted together under each sleeve, resembling a bolero, but has been given extra length to function as a jacket.
The Fungus Shawl Jacket Light features a wide ribbed edge along the neckline and down the fronts and a beautiful double-height moss stitch pattern. The jacket begins with a ribbed edge that runs along the neck. Stitches for the yoke are picked up on this edge, and the rest of the edge is continued while simultaneously knitting the yoke, fronts, and body.
The yoke is worked back and forth, with increases within the ribbed edge at both ends and on each side of the shoulder stitches, until the sleeves reach the correct length, approximately around the elbow. From there, the back and the right and left fronts are worked separately.
When the armhole reaches the correct depth, stitches are bound off under the armhole on both fronts and back on both sides, while simultaneously knitting the back and fronts together. This is done using a three-needle bind-off. Then, the body is worked back and forth in one piece. The body is finished with an I-Cord edge. The sleeves are also finished with I-Cord edges.
You may optionally knit a tie for the jacket, so it can be closed with a bow.
Sizes

Finished measurements
The jacket’s width, after all front piece increases are made, sleeves are joined, and the body is assembled:
Approx. 115 (120) 123 (127) 130 (135) 140 cm.
Sleeve length 1 (measured along shoulder stitches and including I-Cord): approx. 40 (41) 42 (43) 45 (46) 48 cm.
Sleeve length 2 (measured along the bound-off stitches under the arm and including I-Cord): approx. 20 (21) 21 (22) 22 (23) 24 cm.
Body length measured at center back (CB), including edging: approx. 52 (54) 56 (58) 60 (62) 64 cm.
If you have broad shoulders and perhaps long arms, go up 1-2 sizes. The model in the picture has narrow shoulders and slightly short arms, a bust measurement of approximately 84 cm, and is wearing a size XS.
Materials
150 (150) 150 (200) 200 (200) 250 g of Alpaca 1 from Isager Yarn (400 m/50 g) held together with 150 (150) 200 (200) 200 (250) 250 g of Trio 1 from Isager Yarn (350 m/50 g).
The jacket in the photo is knitted in Alpaca 1 in the color 0 and Trio 1 in the color Linen. Both qualities are from Isager Yarn.
In addition to yarn, you will need 6 stitch markers – 2 of which should be able to open like safety pins.
Recommended needles
The jacket is knitted in a moss stitch pattern, double-height back and forth on a circular needle 3 mm (80-100 cm) with 1 strand of Alpaca 1, and 1 strand of Trio 1, held together.
You will need two circular needles, size 3 mm (80–100 cm), as you will be using both needles for the three-needle bind-off when joining the back and front pieces. The extra needle can also hold the stitches that need to rest, while you continue knitting with the other.
The I-Cord edges, which are used to finish both the body and sleeves, are also knitted on a 3 mm needle.
For the part of the edge that runs along the neck, use 2,5 mm double—point needles — you will need three needles.
Gauge
24 sts x 36 rows = 10 x 10 cm in moss stitch pattern doubled in height on 3 mm needles back and forth.
