Funny Onion
Available as part of the CABLE TOWN collection
(5 patterns for 4 euros)
NOTE: Because of the nature of the stitch, the pattern is only charted. If you want extra info about knitting from a chart or have a question, you might be interested in this thread: Chart reading help thread
“Funny onion” is used as a term of endearment in my family and this stitch really reminds me of onions.
(Barbara Walker refers to it as “exploded ribbing”; Vogue Knitting Stitchionary Vol 2: Cables calls it Onion Stitch, and various other names are used on the internet for the same stitch, but for me it’s definitely onions ☺).
It’s fun to knit.
You need to concentrate a bit, but every 2nd round is a “rest round” and it’s fun to see the pattern emerging, so it actually knits up quite quickly.
This is probably not a pattern for beginners, but it’s also not “hard” - just takes a bit of concentration.
Many thanks to maliha for testing.
