FUNtastic MKAL
Was orginally a Mystery KAL, but still fun to knit. The pattern is still in the original format, so it’s best if you read the files on screen and just print the few pages you need. I am planning a short “summary” version soon, but I can’t yet promise when that will be.
Suitable for even a determined beginner - if you can knit and purl and follow a few instructions, you can make this, but more advanced knitters should have fun too.
Can be a scarf or a cowl.
The size is determined by the amount of yarn you have available - see below.
Originally designed for striping yarn but I have since made them with other yarns too and liked them all (see below for suggestions).
Pattern has been tested to ensure it is suitable for mystery knitting.
#The length of your item will be determined by your total yardage:
300m = roughly 130cm (good for a cowl) - 52”
400m = roughly 150-160cm (cowl or short scarf) - 60”
500m = roughly 180cm (scarf) - 72”
#Weight can be anything from fingering to worsted/light Aran
Yarn options:
#Single yarn:
I’d recommend a striping yarn - I used Noro (various ones) and Urth - you could also use a handpun (or similar) or gradient - not variegated
#2-yarn version:
1/2 the yardage should be striping, handspun or variegated - this is a really good way to use approx. 200-250m of handspun
1/2 the yardage should be co-ordinating or contrasting solid or semi-solid.
#4-yarn version:
you can use 4 yarns from a set of mini-skeins - 1/4 yardage of each.
or just equal amounts of 4 yarns you like together
